Which web hosting company?
The biggest problem you will face is which web hosting
company to look for. This is a make or break issue which
will reflect on your business as a whole, and for a long
time to come. Not just in terms of finance, although
obviously this is crucial, but also in terms of damage a
wrong choice can do to your image and consequently your
business. Can a company survive constant downtime? A
slow connection? It is common knowledge that if a site
unattainable or it takes too long to load your users
will venture onto the next site and take a peek there
instead. A potential client lost, a possible order gone
to the competition, maybe a lifetime relationship with a
blue chip layer squandered because of a bad decision on
choice of hosting company. What a shame that would be …
Receiving poor service and performance from your web
hosting company? Kick up a fuss and move on if they
don’t shape up presto! There are plenty of eager beavers
out there just dying to have your business, and, of
course, if they won’t take care of your business then
they are costing you business.
So when you are choosing a web hosting company, think
very carefully. What is it you are looking for? Is it
reliability or the best deal? Of course, everybody seems
to be looking for the best deal these days, at least as
far as ‘best’ is equated with ‘cheapest’ if they were
familiar with the potential woes of a bad-hosting
company, would they be that quick? No one is saying you
have to pay through the nose but here as in everything
else we have previously looked at, you do get what you
pay for.
A good professional will offer this to you as an
additional package or possibly as part of a total
web-based solutions package. A professional will take
over the boring, time consuming, and therefore by
definition, the costly, housekeeping duties most
commonly associated with managing the web site. These
housekeeping duties are tedious, so beware, and so are
technical support, site administration and security.
These, of course, are examples only and are by no
stretch of the imagination the whole picture. A ‘site
management package’ is, of course, an extra cost!
Another extra cost? I hear you wail. Well just think for
a moment of the migraines just lurking in wait to strike
you down if suddenly you needed support, to change site
content, to immediately deal with security alerts!
Relating to a professional is clearly the most sensible
and, in the long run, the most cost effective way of
managing your site. |
